The Five Branches DAOM program is unique in offering students an optional 1 to 6-trimester Residency at Sutter Hospital in Berkeley and the option of earning the Chinese PhD degree.

The Convenience of a Hybrid Format

Maximize your education while minimizing your travel time. Every other month join fellow students on campus, with online-learning in between. This convenient format supports you to achieve your goal of earning a doctorate degree in as little as 24 months while maintaining your career.

Personalized Support Throughout the Program

Experience a supportive team that is committed to your personal and professional growth, and just as excited as you are when you achieve your goals. We focus on your individual experience throughout your time with us.

Learn from Acclaimed DAOM Faculty

In a collaborative and diverse academic environment, you will spend time learning from renowned TCM masters from China, Europe and the U.S. These highly distinguished scholars are published authors, perform ground-breaking research, and are innovators in the TCM profession.

Distinguish your Practice with a Specialization

Receive specialized training in two fields of expertise: Chinese Medical Psychology and Trauma as well as TCM Pain Management. The study of these two specializations provides an integrative approach that will enhance and distinguish your TCM practice.

Deepen your Understanding of the Classics

When you understand the classical theory behind TCM, and apply the principles in real-world situations, the Classics become alive. You will be able to experience how to use the classics to inform the modern approach to treatment protocols.

The Postgraduate DAOM Program is offered at the San Jose campus in both English and Chinese. Learn more about the professional outcomes of the program by reading the DAOM Educational Objectives.

Residency at Sutter Hospital

Students may enroll in a 1 to 6-trimester optional residency at Sutter Hospital in Berkeley. Students observe and participate in integrative healthcare with MD’s for both inpatients and outpatients while learning the protocols of hospital care. The Residency Certification has opened significant doors and salaries at hospitals and integrative medicine centers.

PhD Degree in China

Students can earn the PhD (China) in one of the University’s 6 TCM university partners in China. Students complete the first 2 years of the 3-year PhD (China) program through the DAOM, and 1 additional year with the Chinese TCM university.

Tamra Portalla

DAOM Student

“After researching and applying to several schools across the U.S., I ultimately chose Five Branches because of its outstanding array of scholars and classes. Yet after being in the program for over a year, it is the exceptional support and encouragement from administration that shines through. I can’t think of a better institution to attend. The DAOM program has exceeded my needs as a student, practitioner and scholar. I am so grateful to be a part of the Five Branches University family.”
